A Backyard Micro Wedding in Squamish

“Having a micro wedding made our experience incredibly intimate and enjoyable. We were able to share the most important chapter of our lives with the people we love the most, and with much more ease and relaxation.” - Anu & Daman

When Anu and Daman were planning their wedding, they weren’t aware that a global pandemic would completely change their plans. Like many couples, they were blindsided by COVID-19 and had to adapt to the evolving changes and public health regulations. It was a stressful time for them, but I encouraged them to adapt by sharing a variety of reasons to have a micro wedding while still being safe.

Since it was a small backyard wedding, they opted to have a quick civil ceremony instead of a traditional Indian ceremony (they’re saving that for a later date). It was short and sweet, but it was honestly so special in every way. They had everyone gathered under a big tent, and while it was different from a wedding ceremony that most people were familiar with, the sparks and emotions filled the space. For example, when Anu walked down the aisle with her parents, Daman could not stop smiling and did not take his eyes off her. There were also moments where their parents were teary-eyed during their speech. These fleeting moments hold so much meaning when photographing a visual narrative for my couples.

Their backyard Squamish wedding was perfect in its own way. It was intimate, simple, and celebrated with their close friends and families. We even went over to their neighbour’s backyard for the portrait session, which was only steps away from Anu’s home. They were so kind, waving to us from their balcony and congratulating the couple from a distance to ensure that we were being safe. This just shows that you don’t always need to drive far to get to a beautiful location!

“In hindsight, our COVID wedding might have been a blessing in disguise. We are still hopeful some restrictions may be lifted next year, which will give us the opportunity to celebrate a traditional Indian wedding with all our friends, family and vendors.”

A big shoutout to all these vision makers who made their day possible:
