Vancouver Beach Engagement Photos

Summer in Vancouver means beaches are flocked with people soaking up the sun and taking dips to cool down. Most importantly, many spend time watching sunset at golden hour, which is exactly what Joel and Pantha did. Their sunset engagement photos at Kitsilano, one of the most popular beach locations in Vancouver, offered a gorgeous view of the city and mountains on the North shore. It was such a romantic way to end the last few days of summer.

I often get asked about what to wear during engagement sessions, and my go-to tip is to wear something that speaks true to yourselves. Joel and Pantha’s outfit idea for their photoshoot was to wear bold and bright colours. Pantha wore a piece from Sabyasashi, while Joel wore a batik collared shirt. The combination of the two made for a fun and unique session that spoke true to their personalities, and you’ll see what I mean when you look through their images!

Planning a sunset engagement session meant knowing when and where the sun would set. I typically start my sessions 30 minutes before sunset, which allows enough time to soak in that soft and magical golden hour light.  Since we were shooting in an open area with a clear horizon in sight, catching the sun wasn’t difficult at all. There were a few people around, so we explored to find our own little private area. It wasn’t long before we found this beautiful tree just by the shore. Its curvy branches were so unique, which made for a great backdrop. If you had to know one thing about me, it’s that I love trees - if there’s a cool tree around, you bet you’re gonna get some photos with it!

I was so pumped that I had the honour of photographing Joel and Pantha’s beach engagement. The first time they met, they knew they were going to get married. The love they have for each other is undeniable, and their UBC Botanical Garden wedding was a true reflection of that.
